What To Look For When Selecting A Baby Safety Monitor

It is a joy to have a baby and they bring so much pleasure to the household. But parents have very little time to themselves when bringing up little ones. So what can be done to allow more freedom and quality time to mum and dad? By using a baby safety monitor means that the parents do not need to be with the infant all of the time to ensure they are safe from harm.

A baby safety monitor consists of a transmitter and receiver. The transmitter unit sits quite close to your baby, usually in their room whilst they are sleeping and the receiver unit is kept quite close to the parents or carers. When the baby awakes the carer is alerted so they can attend to the baby.

Baby monitors are inexpensive and extremely effective to monitor your child safety but with such a vast choice on the market, how do we make sure we buy the right one?

Sound Quality

When choosing a baby safety monitor you should first check its sound quality. It should be a perfectly clear sound with no squawks, buzzes or interference.

Range Of Operation

If you have a large house a wireless baby safety monitor may not work correctly in all rooms of your house. Be aware of the manufacturers data on the range of the device.

Portability

A baby monitor that is small and portable enough to carry around with you in the home is extremely useful. This will allow the parents to continue their daily activities without being tied to stay in the same room. Some monitors have a belt clip so your hands will be free to move about. Make sure the device seems durable enough to be carried around and will not fall apart if it gets a knock or two.

Battery Life Indicator

Make sure there is a suitable battery life indicator on the receiver unit as you don’t want it to run out of power and have to recharge it just when you need to use it. It would also be useful for the unit to have an audible tone to inform of low battery. Check with the manufacturers data to how long the unit lasts between charges.

Don’t forget, the most expensive baby safety monitor is not necessarily the most useful. Buy a baby monitor that is durable enough for day to day use and most importantly, make sure it has all the requirements you need to ensure your child's safety.
